What is Osteopathy?
How Osteopathy Works With the Body
Understanding Osteopathy
Whole-body care to support movement, comfort, and wellbeing.
Osteopathy is a form of hands-on manual therapy that considers how the body’s muscles, joints, nerves, and connective tissues work together. Rather than focusing only on the area of discomfort, osteopaths assess how the whole body moves and functions to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms.
At RG Osteopathy, treatment is tailored to each person’s unique needs, goals, and preferences.
Techniques Tailored to the Individual
Evidence-Informed Techniques Used in Osteopathy
What to Expect at Your Appointment
We aim to provide a welcoming, family-friendly environment where you feel listened to and genuinely cared for. Your consultation begins with a thorough medical history, followed by a physical assessment to help us understand your movement, posture, and any areas of tension or pain.
Together, we will discuss your goals and develop a treatment plan that aligns with your needs, preferences, and comfort level.
Osteopathic treatment includes a broad range of techniques that are selected based on the patient’s age, comfort level and individual needs.
Treatment may include techniques such as:
- Soft tissue release techniques
- Myofascial techniques (muscles, fascia, and surrounding connective tissues)
- Stretching and gentle lengthening techniques
- Joint mobilisation and articulation
- Balanced ligamentous tension techniques
- Visceral techniques (gentle techniques for the connective tissues of the abdomen and surrounding regions)
- Cranial osteopathy / cranial-sacral techniques
- Movement guidance or tailored exercises
- Postural, ergonomic or lifestyle recommendations
As an evidence-informed allied health professionals osteopaths undergo extensive training to ensure treatments are appropriate and tailored to the patient. At RG Osteopathy, techniques are always adapted with care to support comfort throughout every appointment.

How Osteopathy Works
Osteopathy uses hands-on techniques to support movement, ease areas of strain or tension, and improve mobility. Osteopaths consider how the body’s structure influences the way it functions, paying attention to the interaction between muscles, joints, fascia, circulation, and the nervous system. By identifying patterns of strain, stiffness or restriction, osteopathy aims to restore comfort and improve mobility.
Many people seek osteopathic care for general aches, pregnancy-related discomfort, postural tension, or musculoskeletal issues affecting daily life. To learn more about the principles of osteopathy, resources such as Osteopathy Australia may provide helpful information.

You are welcome to wear whatever helps you feel most comfortable and relaxed.
